Join Nessie for Open Water Swim on Legendary Loch!

AS THE month of January draws to a close, it can be easy to allow yourself to forget those fitness resolutions you made in the first flush of the year – but there’s really no excuse in Active Inverness.

One great way to stay on track in 2013 is to set yourself a goal that fits with your own activity preferences, giving yourself something to aim for as you train.

We already talked about the events of the Inverness Half Marathon, and today we want to tell you all about the Monster Swim – held each year on Loch Ness, just 20 minutes from Inverness City Centre.

Open Water Swimming Event near Inverness

The Monster Swim is an open water swimming event, offering you the opportunity to challenge yourself in the waters of our legendary loch. This year’s event will take place on August 17th and registration is already open online.

Swimmers can choose between the one mile “Big Yin” course or the shorter (distance to be confirmed) Wee Nessie – but either way participants are guaranteed a unique open water experience (surely swimming with Nessie is one that can’t be beaten?!)

Swimming in Loch Ness is “Awe Inspiring”

Organisers explained: “Conditions can be challenging yet the views down the Loch are awe-inspiring and the feeling of being alone even when you are swimming with others can be exhilarating.”

The Monster Swim website offers comprehensive pre-race training and workout advice to help keep you on track in the coming months, and ensure you are in the best possible shape to face this exciting challenge come August, while Inverness Leisure offers great  swimming pool facilities in Inverness which are open to all and a great place to put in some practice!
