More internationals on the way after attendance impresses SFA
21 March 2006
CALEY Thistle's Tulloch Caledonian Stadium looks certain to play host to further Scotland games following the success of Wednesday's Future international.

The Scottish Football Association's chief executive David Taylor was in the Highland Capital to watch the Scots play Turkey and left hugely impressed by the 5481 fans who turned out to support the national team despite bitterly cold conditions.

Taylor confirmed the SFA iskeen to bring more international matches to the North of Scotland and Aberdeen's Pittodrie stadium has already beeen touted as a possible venue for the national teams Euro 2008 qualifier against the Faroe Islands which takes place in November.

Caley Thistle's ground is some way short of hosting a full international but Taylor is confident that under21 games could become a regular fixture in Inverness.

"It was tremendous to see just how many supporters turned up for the game, and the fact the crowd was nearly 5500 shows that there is plenty of interest in the national team in this part of the country, " he said.

"Overall, it was very encouraging in the sense that we would now be very keen to come back with the under-21s.

"The problem we've had in the past with under-21 games was that their fixtures had to be held within 100 kilometres of where the national team was playing but in future this rule won't apply so we can look at taking matches to grounds throughout Scotland.

"In fact, we've found that actually taking matches like the Future internationals and under-21 games away from Glasgow does increase attendance levels, although we certainly didn't expect that many fans to turn up on Wednesday night so I would like to thank the Inverness public for their support.

"The facilities at Caley Thistle are now of such a standard that I'm sure there will be further opportunities for more matches like Wednesday night's international to be held here."
